I am a queer artist, activist and therapist working with other queer, trans and allied individuals and couples to find empowerment in your identities, healing from trauma and integrated growth.
I received my MA in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I am currently an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with an office in the Oakland LGBTQ+ Center.
I believe deeply in healing, and my practice as a therapist is one way I use my own healing journey to inform and create space for others to explore theirs. Healing can be a process of reconnecting to and revealing our personal and communal strengths - our innate sense of power that interpersonal and systemic oppression tries to take from us. Through intentional self-reflection and processing of trauma, we can build an orientation of healing and learn to empower ourselves, our relationships and our communities.
I am most passionate about working within my community of queer and trans* folx across the lifespan - especially queer and trans* young people. We are a community of unique creativity, relationships, resilience, resistance, community, love and healing. As a White person, I also seek to assist other White-identified people in dismantling white supremacy through explorations and accountability in White allyship and ethnic identity.
MODALITIES
Expressive Arts Therapy can assist us in reengaging our imagination to dream up creative solutions to our current struggles, and give us vision for our future goals.
Before becoming a therapist I was a visual and performing artist - illustrator, singer, musician, and dancer. I have used these mediums in my own process of healing, and offer exploration with many forms of creative arts to find deeper connection to self and empower expression.
Art can be a powerful way to access difficult content through metaphor and externalizations of internalized pain. It can also be a joyful way to celebrate and honor growth and boundaries, and connect to community. Using the arts in therapy has the potential to strengthen coping, bolster resilience and give voice to oppressed parts of ourselves. It is a big part of my personal self-care and co-care.
